- UVA does not cause acanthusis, a thickening of the skin that has been associated with wrinkles & premature aging.
- UVA does not accelerate the rate at which the top layers of skin are replaced. The normal exfoliation rate is 21 to 28 days; UVB tanning can accelerate this to about every 5 days.
- UVA also tans the 2nd and 3rd sub layers of the epidermis. This is why HP tans last longer. Depending on the skin type, a base tan can be established in as few as 2-4 visits, compared to 6-8 or more visits in a low pressure tanning system.
